Walls in Gregors room

These are the walls for Gregors room. The first of three layers to create the effect we felt was true to the text. The first layer was scenic brown paint with layers of dark green and black. Incorporated in the paint was saw dust to create a uneven dirty textured feel to the surface. While this was being done Myself, Jess and Sarah went out to buy chairs for the living room and bedroom. We first travelled to a place where household furniture could be dumped but when we arrived it didnt seem like the right place. A guy there told us that if we headed into town we may be able to get hold of some furniture cheap from the charity shops- they have furniture which is not in a good enough condition to sell.
We headed back into Rochester and didn't have any luck with the furniture. We carried on and visited all the charity shops and I took them into one which had a tea set which i had found on my last trip into town. I wanted them to see it before purchasing it. Turns out it was perfect so we got it.
We also found two chairs, my second chair which was not going to be built from scratch and a chair for the bedroom desk.

When we got back the bedroom wall first layer was finished. The next day when Henry viewed it he didnt seem too impressed. He said it looked as though a bunch of students had just done it (we had) and I dont think he really understood the fact that this was a first layer. When we told him that we were to wallpaper over it for the second layer he said this was not how it would have been done. I can see the point he made but as a group we saw that the best way to get the effect we desired was to build in layers. We were advised that wallpaper would not stick onto sawdust and such a bumpy surface, as a result of this Jess and I went around and removed the very heavy lumpy areas of paint and John brushed the walls sown to remove and loose sawdust in preparation for the next layer.
