Once the flats had been made they could be stood together and screwed into place.
Braces hold the pieces upright. Originally the set was going to have to be dismantled and taken to Maidstone to be photographed. This idea was changed and the set will now remain where they are built. I am really pleased about this as when the next stages of the make are in process it would ruin the look if it then had to be taken apart and re-assembled somewhere else. Also the transport of it in a van could cause a lot of damage to the surfaces of the flats.
Once the set had been put together the first process was to prepare the skins for whatever covering we were going to have. In our case the Living room was to be wallpapered entirely and the bedroom was to have the first layer of three applied to it.
In the living room a layer of paste had to be applied to the skins so that the wallpaper would stick to the wood. The wood absorbs the paste so it had to be covered first with a layer and then allowed to dry before the wallpaper is applied.
